A2, Acrylic and mixed media

The “Lazy Bones” series was born from a deep reflection on my early days living out west in the untamed Outback. Raised on the lush, gentle slopes of the Darling Downs, I was accustomed to soft green fields and the embrace of a temperate climate. My first taste of the west arrived with Christmas—a season that delivered a fierce, relentless heat that drained my energy and demanded a slow, patient acclimatization. Yet, it was impossible not to be captivated by this new world: the dazzling white gums stretching toward an endless sky, the ancient gidgee trees, the crimson dusty earth, ironstone ridges shimmering in the haze, and rocky hills rolling off toward distant horizons. The vastness called to my sense of adventure, and I found myself braving the heat, curiosity burning brighter than the sun. This series is a love letter to that wild landscape—an exploration of its moods and mysteries, and a reflection of how the climate pressed itself into my bones as I learned to belong to this extraordinary place.
