CARE PAVILIONS

The headquarters for the aged care company are located with dramatic northern views across to a city Park. The mature garden aspect offers an opportunity for a dynamic transparent architectural expression relating to the inside and outside spaces. These forms respond to the aged care responsibilities of the staff, providing a series of inspiring, reverential, contemplative spaces, each with a unique opportunity for reflection.

  • Instead of a traditional commercial volume that would dominate the streetscape, the design creates a polygonal installation that forms a series of pavilions and adjacent courtyards. Each pavilion has the distinct characteristic of either surrounding, reflecting or projecting far into the building's interior a special view into the gardens beyond.

The striking roof forms can be understood as a symbol for the strategy melding nature and architecture. The natural materials are interwoven with plants to form an environment which lends the building an ever-changing appearance with the passing seasons. Inside, the building is planned as a flexible, cohesive, series of interconnected open spaces that offer a transparent office landscape over two floors.
