SHIPYARD HOUSE

The design language and approach for the ‘Shipyard House’ are inspired by the character of the historic shipyards, the river edge, as well as capturing the views of the Portside skyline. The house is filled with the colour, light, sound, breezes and the scent of the adjacent water and gardens. The natural texture of the stone, the sheen and reflections of the water, and the warmth of the bronze and timber all help inform the design of a considered calm retreat.

  • River houses have developed a distinctive vernacular, and a relaxed design approach. This character has been reflected throughout with the use of understated natural materials and the invitation of light into the residence with screens, courtyards and generous openings whilst maintaining a private refuge.

The history and uniquely built forms of the shipyards are echoed throughout the design. Whether it be the screen, a repetition of the ship supports, the form of the stair edges or the iconic arches of historic shipyards.
